Spring Fun

Highlights of April: Field trips: The Peris school asked us to help provide transport for their classes to go on field trips. We had two days of activities. The first day we went to the Natural History Museum and the park and the second day we went to the zoo and to McDonalds. The kids enjoyed the days and the teachers were very grateful for the help, without which they wouldn't have been able to take the kids anywhere. Nicu was my special friend at the zoo. He started wandering off and I told him to stick with me and he did. He had my arm for the rest of the day. He was recently removed from the orphanage to a different location as punishment for an event from a year ago, which makes the memory of this day extra special. Please pray for Nicu. He has had an on again, off again relationship with God and H2H for awhile. He has a big heart and I pray that God protects him and that the things that he's learned over the years sustain him during this time. I pray that he will come out of this stronger in faith. Easter: The other highlight of the month was celebrating Easter. This is always a big H2H family event. We have a big meal and a legendary egg hunt. Here are some favorites from the day!

Other Happenings

Here are some other special moments from February and March!

Party Time

Jenny and I often joke that we are either planning an event, hosting an event, or cleaning up for an event! While we say it jokingly, there is a lot of truth in that statement. I guess when you have a family the size of H2H, there are a lot of things to celebrate! This year, Jenny had an extended furlough so I found myself facing the events of February and March without my handy sidekick! I will admit that I missed, especially when it came to cake baking, but I made it! The first event was Sandel's ordination! Sandel has been pastoring a church in the Bucuresti area for almost a year, but the formal ordination was held in February. It was a day of celebration and recognizing God's hand upon Sandel's life and his choice to enter the ministry. We could not be prouder! Karla turned 4! It is hard for me to fathom. She is all about Peppa Pig right now and I was able to pull off a piggy cake, much to her delight. She is so smart and sweet and full of courage and life. Her vocabulary in both English and Romanian is amazing and she makes me laugh. Karla's birthday was followed by my own! I mentioned to a few of the kids that they were welcome to come over for lunch after church. About 30 people showed up, so it was a bit bigger of an affair then I expected! I was very well celebrated! I celebrated as well with my birthday twin, Fernando. He turned 16! Each year we take a picture and he gets a big chocolate bar. It is a special connection! We wrapped up this season with Eric's first birthday! He is a very sweet boy. He is pretty calm and laid back for the most part. He loves the song "baby shark" so we had an ocean party with fishing for prizes. The kids were thrilled and it was a fun day! Lots more celebrating to come as we have two weddings of our graduates next month. Life if full!

Thanksgiving!

A few Pictures from Thanksgiving!

A New Year

I know that almost everyone shares the sentiment "Where did 2018 go?!" It was a whirlwind of a year full of much craziness and blessing. But here we are already at the end of January 2019! Another year well underway! I returned from my furlough on Dec. 27th. I arrived at the same time as the Holiday Team. The Holiday Team is always a fun team, because we get to hand out presents and enjoy the kids while they have vacation from school. We also get to do different things with the Transition kids. Ice skating has become a favorite annual event. The Holiday Team had all departed by mid-January. My housemate and co-worker Jenny also left on furlough. I've been using the time to catch up on some of the house projects that never seem to get done. For example we had a carpet destroyed in a flood last summer, and we were finally able to get it replaced. Two of our transition graduates assisted me on a day-long adventure--but the carpet is in! H2H has two new ministry locations that we are working in and I've been able to visit both of those locations as well as participate in Saturday Ministry out at Peris. We've been able to hand out winter clothing and have praise and prayer time. Ruthie and Karla love winter other then the colds and flu that seem to come with it. The entire Bucuresti school system was shut down last week because of a flu epidemic. Ruthie and Karla were both down with high fevers. We also had a two day ice storm. These things cause difficulties in day to day life, but they also bring the joys of extra snuggles and beauty. 2019 is already shaping up to be a roller-coaster of a year, full of ups and downs and lots of twists and turns. Fortunately, God promises we won't ever do it alone. That is a promise that I'm holding onto tightly! He is here and he sends others to ride along as well!

Sept/Oct

Whew! There's a lot to talk about the last two months! Part of the month of September found me in the US. I had a week of vacation time, in which my friend Val and I visited part of New England. Then I spent some time in Kansas for my younger brother's wedding. When I returned to Romania I hit the ground running. Fall programming was beginning and there are always many, many details to work out with the staff and coordinate with the orphanages directors and bosses. I always feel like the fall is a bit of a waiting game. The orphanages don't know what they are doing, so we have to wait for them to get their programs into place, while at the same time trying to guess what we'll be able to do, so that the second we get the go ahead we can get started. Fortunately I have a good staff and we are seasoned in being FAT (Flexible, adaptable, and Teachable)! The beginning of October we also began this year's Transition Group. We have two boys, Dragosi and George in the Boys House, and twos girls, Tatiana and Angi in the Girls' Apt. We had to rent a new apartment and get it set up for this group. Ruthie turned 8! We had a small gathering at the mall for pizza and bowling. She's growing up too fast! Jim and Jodi were also here for a visit. They visited ministry locations plus we had a two day staff training time together. A few other fun shots of the past Two months:
